If you are in the market for a new pickup truck, take note, truck makers have reached concensus on standardized testing procedures to determine towing specs. Toyota has taken the lead with implementing these new standards on current models for sale. GM, Ford and Dodge will follow with 2013 models. The new testing standard, once implemented by all in 2013, will finally make it possible to evenly compare and choose a vehicle based on their given towing specs. Todays tow ratings are (with exception to Toyota) created by the manufacturer, through their own testing requirements. While the new standards could result in an increase in tow ratings for some manufacturers, it's more likely that the numbers overall will decrease. For more information click on the links provided.
