Ethanol is destructive on many vehicles and it is terrible on small engines, such as chainsaws, boats and lawnmowers. Ethanol has been shown to lower your vehicle fuel mileage some 15% and it even shortens the shelf life of fuel mixed with ethanol. There are really no good attributes. Ethanol adds to air pollution, by adding to particulate matter that is spewed into the air we breathe by vehicles burning ethanol.
Ethanol makes corn farmers fat and happy and dependent on our tax dollars. Remember that this fuel additive, made in the USA is created from just about the most inefficient crop for this purpose, corn. There are better sources, but there is no need or reason for ethanol. Because ethanol is made from such a valuable and already overused food source, ethanol has only succeeded in driving up feed prices for animals and food prices for everyone.
This issue is very important and it shouldn't be something to be glossed over. I have a gasoline vehicle and I drive too many miles and spend too much on ethanol's inefficient tax. My truck, like most all vehicles performs better and more efficiently on straight gasoline. Corn belongs on the dinner table, not in our fuel tanks.
Whether you are a vehicle owner or not, I encourage you to take the time to type an email (or tweet, if that is your thing) and encourage Mr. Trump to change his favorable view on ethanol or more importantly, discourage his promise on increasing the ethanol mandate. Ethanol is terribly inefficient and only increases pollution, while increasing our cost of living.
